Out of this climate, we began writing a play about everyday life of the UNC student-athlete--the unique challenges the scandal has posed and the common stressors of competing at the college level. David Navalinsky (Director of Undergraduate Production in the Department of Dramatic Art) brought Jackson Bloom (UNC '15) and I on board as co-creators in January 2014. Since then, we have taken interviews from 30 student-athletes spanning 13 sports and compiled them into a handful of distinct characters.
Our invited reading in early August garnered a positive reception, and we will be announcing another soon. Look out for a full production of the work to be announced for late-October or early-November.
